How is volleyball played? Volleyball is a court game between two teams of six players each, played by hitting a ball to the opposite side over a net. When the ball hits the ground or goes out of one side of the court it is a point or an opportunity to serve for the other team. Basic rules of volleyball 1-Volleyball is a team sport that can be played indoors, outdoors and even on the beach (known as beach volleyball). 2-The playing field is a rectangular field of 18m x 9m divided into two parts of the same size by a centre line. It is surrounded by a free zone at least 3m wide on all sides that overhangs the playing area. Three metres from the centre line is the attack line that delimits the offensive zone. 3-The volleyball net is variable in height.
